In the US, heavy wet snow in the Northeast can bring down the power lines by sheer weight when it settles on the cables. I never understood this. It's America, the richest nation on the planet, being held to ransom by the weather. Surely, it isn't an insurmountable problem and could be dealt with easily. But it was not until I lived there that I realised the enormous size of the country meant putting the cables underground was a huge and unjustifiable cost.
Through my American realisation, it is something I often notice when travelling. While India is an enormous country, the expolsion of electricity and the internet creates mad masses of cables and wiring. And like the US, the cost of dealing with infrastructure is too costly to tidy away, so it is on prominent display. I am sure that after a while, like any eyesore, it just disappears. But I couldn't resist a small documentary series of photos to capture it. In places, it is like the jungle growing back and taking over.
