Garden Visitors in Chiaroscuro

Foxes have moved into towns and seem to be thriving, or, at least, they are in our neighbourhood. A number of friends, who live in different parts of the country, have commented on how healthy our foxes look compared to the ones they see in their neighbourhoods.

Our garden is on a fox's trail as part of its range. It enters at the bottom of the garden through a gap in the fence before crossing the garden and disappearing behind the greenhouse. The first time I saw it, it disappeared behind the greenhouse and didn't come back out. I waited 10-15 minutes and then cautiously went out to take a look. There was no sign of it. It has vanished! Then I spotted a slight scrape under the fence. . .

That was 18 months ago. Since then it has returned regularly, and sometimes it stops and sunbathes in the suntrap at the bottom of the garden. What a wonderful surprise last month to see two of them. And even more welcome was the beautiful light which gave this wonderful chiaroscuro effect.
