A family holiday to Manorbier on the Pembrokeshire coast gave me another opportunity to get the large lens out and practice technique for another sport. I had hopes of capturing some Pembrokeshire surfing photos and with a couple of storms passing through, the chances were good. However, trips to Freshwater West and Tenby found no surfers. With time running out, a family trip to Manorbier Castle led to my daughter spotting about twenty surfers out of one of the castle windows.
I never surfed - I would have loved to give it a try - but I was a very keen skateboarder. Before you scoff, don't forget that skateboarding was invented by surfers who wanted something to do when the surf was poor. Anyway, the point I'm trying to make here is it helps in photography when photographing a sport to understand some of the nuances and how the body should be responding.
